First Match for Gansbaai United U13!

On Thursday 10th July the Gansbaai United U13s hosted their first match at the Gansbaai Communal Sports Centre. A crowd of almost 50 people gathered in excitement to see them kick off against more experienced local rivals Zwelihle United U13s. A very competitive game was played in excellent spirit; the teams finished 1-1, with Gansbaai United holding their nerve to win on penalties. After the match the sides were treated to sandwiches and oranges courtesy of the Football Foundation of South Africa. Zwelihle United’s visit was only possible due to the kind transport provided by the Grootbos Foundation. Thanks and congratulations to all those involved, especially the victorious players, and we look forward to their next match.

The Football Foundation hosts training programmes for the youth at the Gansbaai Communal Sports Centre three times a week. The aim of these programmes is to start a junior soccer league and enable the children from the different communities in Gansbaai to play together. The programme has been running for two months and has a regular group of about 80 children aged between 10 and 18 that attend training sessions.
