We’re very pleased to introduce the 8 ladies that are our Growing the Future Class of 2009!
Babalwa Theresia Mdleleni
Born: 18/08/1981 in Matatiele, EC
Babalwa has achieved Grade 10 in school, and is confident that she can one day become a vegetable supplier for local shops and restaurants. Recent work experience is in a restaurant, but she has already shown a love for nature, and a determination to work hard. Babalwa wants to open a vegetable business in the Eastern Cape one day. Babalwa’s year at Growing the Future is very kindly sponsored by Ms. B. Birstiel of Germany.
Neliswa Gqweta
Born 7/02/1980 in Willovale, EC
Neliswa grew up in a family, which saw growing vegetables as a traditional way of life, and believes that cabbage is the most important crop to grow. She is hoping to learn good, new techniques and methods of growing, which will help her understand the theory behind how and why things grow better! Neliswa would love to be a commercial vegetable farmer one day.
Nobandile Princess Kuze
Born 18/10/1985 in Mount Fletcher, EC
Princess has completed Grade 10 and her ambition is to further her studies. She also has a passion for growing vegetables and had agriculture as a subject at school. The qualification she receives from Growing the Future will allow her to follow her dreams and educate herself.
Noloyiso Mathonisa
Born 25/10/1977 in the Eastern Cape
Although very shy, Noloyiso is a lovely lady, with a great, cheeky sense of humour who has worked at a variety of places, including a large scale chicken farm. She seems to be very excited to be a part of the project, and will surely be a success story. Noloyiso would like to add to her experience and rear chickens for people in her community.

Ntombizandile Zawula
Born 13/12/1976 in the Eastern Cape
“Ntombizandile” means “more daughters” in Xhosa, and our Ntombizandile tells us that she spent a lot of time with her mother and sisters growing vegetables! She is a great prospect, and is very keen to start her own vegetable garden.
Mitchell Noziphiwo Dantile
Born 7/11/1983 in the Eastern Cape
Mitchell is a lively, bubbly person who is always enthusiastic and keen to be involved. She is intelligent and quick to learn. Mitchell would like to further her education after her year with us, and move back to the Eastern Cape to join her father on his vegetable farm.

Susanna Johanna Wildschut
Born 2/05/1983 in Van Rhynsdorp
Susanna does not have much experience in vegetable growing, but has shown a real enthusiasm to learn and willingness to work hard. An intelligent and diligent young lady who should do very well and take much out of her year at Growing the Future.

Thulani Bekameva
Born 22/01/1984 in Gauteng
Thulani is a confident young lady who is hard working and diligent. She is hoping to start a project upon completing her course here, whereby she can train other people in vegetable growing, and make more fresh produce available to HIV positive people in communities.
Great! We wish you all the best of luck!
