Autumn News

As the autumn leaves are falling, we celebrate a season filled with wonderment and gratitude for special individuals that make everything we do possible, from staff to volunteers and interns, journalists to accountants, and taxi drivers to sponsors!

All the way from the United States we welcomed our friends Jason Bocarro and Michael Edwards from North Carolina State University, together with our long term partners from CPUT Kamilla Swart and Brendon Knott. The group visited us earlier this month and brought with them a big donation of kit and equipment for the programme!

Return guests to Grootbos, Jens and Margarit Jacobs, visited us all the way from Switzerland and generously donated to the Green Futures programmes – thank you for your tremendous contribution!

Desmond Langkilde from the Southern African Tourism Services (SATSA) published an in-depth article on How to implement Responsible Tourism practices in the Tourism Tattler http://issuu.com/tourismtattler/docs/tourism-tattler-february-2015

The benefits derived from responsible tourism practices are well documented, but in practice the implementation of these principles can be a nightmare for the uninitiated.

The Foundation is growing its consulting focus not only in the responsible tourism space. With our solid history of delivery in sport for development, we are expanding our beneficiary reach by consulting to organisations such as the SAFA Development Agency. Going forward we are continuously looking to work with reputable organizations that share our values and want to achieve similar goals.

The Grootbos Foundation programmes are flourishing because of the amazing support of our donors, grantmakers, funders and volunteers from all over the globe.  As 2015 accelerates into top gear we wish to commend you for your continued support to make a real difference in the lives of thousands of children, women and men in our local communities to become empowered and motivated citizens of our region - and we ask please that you continue to do so.  Should this newsletter encourage you to contribute to our programmes, you may contact me at karin@grootbosfoundation.org
