On Thursday, December 4, the Football Foundation celebrated the Holiday Season in grand fashion with our annual Christmas play, talent show and end-of-the-year sports awards. All of this took place as one event at Gansbaai Primary School in Blompark, kicking off at 5pm. The Christmas play, which portrayed the classic story of the Nativity, was performed by the children of Stanford and written by Stanford local, FFSA Netball Coach and Project Facilitator, Anchelle Damon. The talent show and awards ceremony coincided with one another, with a performance taking place after each award was presented. The awards, which included Most Improved, Most Dedicated and Player of the Year, were presented to athletes from each sport (football, netball, athletics and hockey) and from each community that the Foundation serves (Gansbaai, Mount Pleasant, Zwelihle, Stanford and Hawston). The performances that took place in between the awards, which certainly displayed some remarkable talent, wooed the crowd with lots of singing, dancing and beatboxing. One group of girls sang Christmas songs, some of the boys performed a spectacular gumboot dance, and another group of girls performed an interpretive dance with hockey sticks. The programme ended with a visit from Santa Claus himself, who handed out gifts to all of the children in attendance! All in all, the evening was a huge success, with lots of fun, joy and holiday spirit! Congratulations to everyone who earned an award, and thank you to those who decided to share their talent with all of us. We wish all the children a wonderful holiday season!
