Last month, former FFSA volunteers, Jennifer Mildenhall and Vincent van Baal, returned to South Africa and revisited the Football Foundation after 5 years. With them, they brought fifteen Manchester United kits, which were donated to various children throughout our football programme and were graciously received! These kits came via the Manchester United Foundation, which serves as the non-profit arm of the Manchester United Football Club, for which Jen currently works. This donation was cause for much excitement for our beneficiaries and is greatly appreciated!
Jen and Vince volunteered at the Football Foundation in 2009. Vince, who was the very first NHTV Breda University student we ever received from the Netherlands, volunteered for 7 months, and Jen, who was the third ever student we received from Sheffield Hallam University in England, volunteered for 3 months. After returning to England, Jen started working for Wolverhampton Football Club. During her time there, she also donated kits from the Club, which many of the children in our football programme can still be seen wearing at training sessions.
Jen is currently working for the Manchester United Foundation’s school programmes and manages their coaches. In the future, she would like to establish a relationship between the Man-U Foundation and the FFSA that would allow their coaches to come to Gansbaai and share their skills and knowledge with our football programme.
