The Masakhane Community Farm has had a facelift! Thanks to the most generous donation from Woolworths Finance Just Cause Team, we now have a new wendy-house style classroom and a temperature-controlled mushroom house - we can hardly wait to see how well farm manager Zokhanyo’s oyster mushrooms grow in their new premises! These mushrooms are sold to generate funds that are put straight back into running this community farm. With the support of the Just cause Team, we have also been able to install water tanks which fill with rain water run-off from the wendy-houses, and soon a new solar power system will power the air-conditioner (lucky mushrooms) and water pump (grateful plants).
Our most recent Urban Agriculture class of 13 young unemployed people at the Masakhane Community Farm was the first group to make use of the new classroom. Food farming and improved knowledge about organic farming methods, sustainable farming, water conservation and the medicinal properties of fynbos offers many tangible benefits to these community members and their families.
Thank you for being a part of this change for good, Woolworths Finance Just Cause Team.
