Our ‘Rock The Boat’ development canoeing project came from the vision to enable access of local children to access the Stanford River canoeing as a sport. The project is a joint project between the Stanford Canoeing Club and the Grootbos Foundation and started more than 18 months ago.
A highlight has been the hours of practice on the Stanford River, building up to participation in the recent SA Champs. 15 of the Rock the Boat development canoeing team all drove up to Pretoria and took part on the Roodepoort Dam.
The experience of traveling to the event, the experience of competing and taking part all contributed to making this trip a memory of a lifetime and an experience that bonded the team. A highlight of the event was when one of the development team won their first medal and arrived home to a reception by the whole road, his extended family including his granny. We are so proud of all those who took part and grateful to the coaches, parents and everyone that made this possible.
