Our twelve green students are all in their new uniforms and getting into the swing of their year with the Green Futures College.
This year Green Futures College is running it's training in line with the requirements of the national Adult Based Education Training (ABET) and the Quality Council for Trades & Occupations Council (QCTO) standards. The ABET qualification will give students a qualification equivalent to a Grade 11 and includes many life skills relevant studies such as English, Computer skills and basic Maths. The QCTO training curriculum includes propagation, plant biology, plant identification and soil science. The split between theory and practical components is estimated to be a 40 percent to 60 percent split.
As in other years, the students are each required to grow a vegetable garden as a special project. It is so exciting to get to know the students each year, to see the students getting into the rhythm of their studies and see them become an integral part of the Green Futures team. It is inspiring to see their dedication and commitment to creating a brighter future for themselves.
