Making a Splash

In the heat of the South African summer, there is nothing more tempting than a cool dip in our glittering Walker Bay waves, or a quick splash into one of the rivers or lagoons along our coastline. The Football Foundation believes in safety first, and to this end, offers Beginner Water Safety Lessons to Grade R boys and girls from Masakhane Primary School. Teaching young children about how to behave safely and responsibly around water, and how to best get out of possible danger is the focus of these fun classes in Gansbaai. The kids look forward to their weekly lessons which are run during the warmer months in the first and fourth school terms. They just love making a SPLASH!

The Football Foundation has teamed up with the Butterfly Centre in Stanford to bring sports and games to children who have barriers to learning. Coaches and volunteers from the Football Foundation run a variety of sports games with these enthusiastic children once a week, and a stand-out highlight was their first Beginner Water Safety lesson on 27 February.
