The Masakhane Community Farm was started approximately 1 year ago. The project aims to uplift the local community through urban agriculture, entrepreneurship training, and by fostering connections between humans and their environment.
The Community Farm has flourished under the care of Pontsho Chiloane, the Farm Manager. Pontsho has been instrumental in setting up the worm farm, installing an irrigation system and overseeing the management of the farm.
Zokhanyo Bikani has shared her wealth of knowledge gained at our Growing the Future organic farm since 2011. Zozo also facilitates our Urban Agriculture Training and Food for Sport programmes. Zozo has managed to build a wealth of relationships within a very short space of time. Under Zozo’s care, our Oyster Mushroom enterprise is growing from strength to strength!
Siyabonga Mankayi has been with the Community Farm since its inception. He started as a casual, keen and eager to learn. He has proven himself to be an amazingly creative and caring gardener. He has gathered inspiration from various projects and has implemented them throughout the garden. Siyabonga's contribution includes our Butterfly Garden, Star Garden, and is also responsible for the maintenance around the farm.
Nwabisa joined the team in April as an intern and has discovered a passion for teaching and environmental education, and lends a helping hand wherever she can.
We are incredibly proud of what this young team has managed to accomplish in little over a year!
