During June the Grootbos Foundation Siyakhula Careers, Employability and Enterprise Programme reached new heights with the launch of our adult based Entrepreneurship Programme, funded by the Swiss Re Foundation. Previously this enterprise development programme was undertaken with high school learners in six high schools in the Overberg. Focus has since shifted to the unemployed sector of our communities to stimulate economic growth in the Hermanus and Gansbaai areas which are in great need.
In total 64 adults partook in the programme. Three day workshops were held in Masakahane and Zwelihle where participants learnt the A – Z of entrepreneurship. Everything from business etiquette, ideas and marketing was taught through theoretical presentations and practical group and individual activities. On the last day, there was a guest speaker who delivered the session on budgeting. This session emphasised that money management is no secret and budgeting is key for not only a business but personal finances too.
In August this year, the budding Entrepreneurs will present their business ideas and seed funding will be awarded to 10 participants to assist with the start-up or expansion business funding required. We are very excited to hear the out-of-the-box micro business ideas! Watch this space.
