On the evening of Wednesday, September 10, two Quantum buses filled with FFSA coaches, volunteers, interns and players made their way to Cape Town Stadium in the city’s Waterfront area to watch South Africa’s Bafana Bafana battle Nigeria’s national squad. With tickets generously provided by the South African Football Association (SAFA), over 35 of these FFSA members enjoyed a brilliant night of international football. The match, which resulted in a 0-0 draw, was a qualifier for the 2015 African Cup of Nations. While matches that end the way they start, scoreless, can be a bit of a disappointment for fans, this match was certainly anything but disappointing, with constant nail-biting moments and sudden bursts of excitement that had the entire stadium on their feet. With no shortage of exciting play throughout, the FFSA left the stadium satisfied and ecstatic. Before heading back to Gansbaai though, the kids fully utilized the opportunity of this visit to take countless group pictures and ‘selfies’ throughout the stadium and in front of the pitch, which have undoubtedly been used to update a few profile pictures on their social media accounts. Thanks to SAFA for the tickets and to the FFSA for their successful facilitation, this trip turned out to be a gleaming highlight of the week for the kids who attended and everyone else involved.
