Maxene Valentine - Blompark Rugby Star

My parents are Hein and Maudie. I am the oldest of 3 children. My father is employed in the local municipality and my mother is a seasonal worker at the local fish factory. They are trying their utmost best to give their children the best academic education.

I’m in my second year of playing rugby. It is also my second year representing my province in ruby on a provincial level. My interest in rugby stems from my father playing for our local rugby club and I am a committed supporter of our local team. My highlight this year was being awarded the “Best Frontrow Player” at the Girls Under 16 SA Rugby Tournament.

My dream goal is to represent my country in women’s rugby in the distant future. However, for now I would be happy to complete my school education and then to complete further studies on a tertiary level.

Through my participation in women’s rugby, I am hoping to be a role model to many in our community because the role of women must be accepted and recognised in our country.

I would like to thank my Heavenly Father for my talent, my parents for their support and love, The Football Foundation and coaches for their nurturing and my community of Blompark Gansbaai for their encouragement
