Entrepreneurship Profile: Sxolies Aerobics Club

A healthy body is a healthy mind is the Mk’s slogan. He believes in fitness and sport programmes as a mechanism to address some of the social challenges facing local communities.

Mk grew up in a family passionate about sport, his mother was an avid netball player and coach and he grew up playing rugby. He realised early on that sport has the potential to not only be his passion but could be his career. In 2003 Mk completed the ETA (Exercise, Teachers and Training Academy) Sports Coaching and Administration course, went on to study a Sport Administrator Course, Aerobics Instructor course and completed a number of supplementary small courses.

In 2017 Mk joined the Grootbos Foundation’s Entrepreneurship programme and was selected to receive seed funding to expand and take his business to the next level. Thanks to the Swiss Re Foundation who funded the programme MK was able to receive much needed speakers, fitness steps, dumbbells, yoga mats and marketing material.

MK says Aerobics and fitness has the power to bring together different groups within communities and helps to mobilise individuals and channel their energy in a healthy and positive way. On a weekly basis MK offers Aerobics classes in Zwelihle and Mount Pleasant and hosts wellness and sports events such as, aerobics marathon’s in and around the Overberg.
